Caltech

In popular culture, Caltech is known as the place where most of the Big Bang Theory characters work. Caltech, short for California Institute of Technology, is in fact a prestigious research university widely recognized for the studies of science and engineering. The university’s faculty and students have received 38 Nobel Prizes.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory

In a partnership with NASA, Caltech administers Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), the leading U.S. center for robotic exploration of the solar system. It’s where the Mars rovers were designed and built.

Architecture Tours

The architecturally rich campus combines historic architecture styles with modern styles, guests on the tour are treated to styles ranging from Mediterranean Revival to Modernism to Brutalist. Architecture tours of the 124-acre campus are conducted on the fourth Thursday of each month at 10:30 AM (January-June, September, October) and on the third Thursday in November. Tours depart from the Athenaeum at 551 S Hill Ave, Pasadena, CA 91106. Reserve a tour online or call James Muro at (626) 395-4654. Tours fill up fast, try to reserve a tour at least a couple of months in advance.
