About their Summer Solstice artists:
Rogue Lemon Collective is a Los Angeles–based string quartet bringing curiosity and imagination to the chamber music tradition. Featuring Ellie Dunbar and Megan Shung (violins), Rita Andrade (viola), and Zack Reaves (cello), the ensemble draws on rigorous classical training while moving fluidly across styles, from original works to re-envisioned repertoire.
Their performances unfold with a focus on texture, detail, and transformation—where small musical gestures are shaped, layered, and given time to resonate. At once grounded and exploratory, their sound invites close listening, offering moments that feel both carefully wrought and quietly unexpected.
For the Summer Solstice, Neelamjit Dhillon (tabla, bansuri, saxophone) and Chris Votek (cello) offer an intimate exploration of Hindustani raga at the intersection of Indian and Western classical traditions. Rooted in deep study—Dhillon with tabla master Ustad Zakir Hussain, and Votek in the vocal gayaki ang style under Dr. N. Rajam—their music unfolds with meditative depth, fluid improvisation, and luminous tonal color.
As collaborators, they have arranged and performed with artists and institutions including the San Francisco Symphony and Zakir Hussain, bringing a thoughtful, contemporary voice to centuries-old traditions. Their duo performance invites listeners into a rich, expansive sound world—perfectly attuned to the warmth, stillness, and radiance of the longest day of the year.
