About the City of Astronomy
Pasadena, also known as the City of Astronomy, has been at the forefront of astronomical discovery for over a century. Groundbreaking findings such as magnetic fields in sunspots, the expansion of the universe, and the first evidence of dark matter were made by astronomers based in Pasadena or using its world-class facilities.
Twelve Pasadena-based institutions: Caltech, Carnegie Observatories, Giant Magellan Telescope, IPAC, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Kidspace Children’s Museum, Mt. Wilson Observatory, Pasadena City College, Pasadena Unified School District, The Planetary Society, Thirty Meter Telescope, and the ArtCenter College of Design/Williamson Gallery, have partnered to honor Pasadena’s legacy as the City of Astronomy and to inspire public appreciation for its continued scientific innovation.
