Events History of Vroman's Vroman's was founded by Adam Clark Vroman who moved to Pasadena from Illinois. He was a supporter of the Pasadena Public Library and helped rescue a few of the old Franciscan missions from decay; he was also involved in establishing the Southwest Museum in nearby Highland Park. Vroman was an avid photographer with a focused interest on the American West and Native Americans; his photographs can be seen at The Huntington and Southwest Museum—he was one of Ansel Adams influences. During WWII Mr. Vroman donated books to Japanese American internees in the LA Area, despite being fired upon by camp guards. When Mr. Vroman died, he left the bookstore to his employees and their descendants. Vroman's Bookstore was once named Bookseller of the Year in 2008 by Publishers Weekly for its fairness to employees, community service, customer responsiveness.
