Descanso Gardens features nine botanical collections, the Descanso Railroad with model trains traveling through natural landscapes and a miniature ride-on train, art gallery, café, and gift shop. The urban retreat also boasts a redwood forest, streams, a lake, a bird sanctuary, and the largest camellia garden in the United States. Programmed activities include summer events and musical performances, yoga classes, weekend walks, story time for kids, nature workshops, and more.

Descanso is open from 9am–5pm daily. Members can enter without an advance ticket. Non-members can purchase tickets on-site or online.
Food and drinks can be purchased at The Market or Jones Coffee at Descanso. Guests may bring their own food to enjoy at the picnic tables outside of the Visitor Center. Descanso Gardens is a cashless establishment.
