History of Vroman’s

Vroman’s was founded by Adam Clark Vroman who moved to Pasadena from Illinois. He was a supporter of the Pasadena Public Library and helped rescue a few of the old Franciscan missions from decay; he was also involved in establishing the Southwest Museum in nearby Highland Park. Vroman was an avid photographer with a focused interest on the American West and Native Americans; his photographs can be seen at The Huntington and Southwest Museum—he was one of Ansel Adams influences.

Vroman passed away in 1924, his bookstore was left to his longtime employees. One of those employees was the current owner’s great grandfather. Vroman’s also owns Book Soup on the Sunset Strip.
