Historic District

Pasadena’s 19th century origins remain reflected in what was once the city’s original marketplace and oldest commercial area. A model of historic preservation and civic revitalization, the 22 blocks of Old Pasadena were designated a National Register Historic District in 1983 and contain lovingly restored examples of late 19th and early 20th century architecture.

With an eclectic mix of over 200 boutiques, specialty stores, and national retailers Old Pasadena provides an unparalleled assortment of shopping opportunities. Cruise Colorado Boulevard for the well known, from J. Crew to Tiffany & Co. and explore unique local shops like cosmetic store Lather, galleries like The Flower Pepper Gallery, and boutiques such as Elisa B. and Finn & Willow.

Over 100 restaurants are located throughout this easily walkable and public transit accessible historic area. Try gastropub fare from Edwin Mills, with drink specials every day. For something casual yet entirely authentic, taste California Cuisine at Prawn, a seafood-centric cafe by Mark Peel who pioneered the California Cuisine movement along with his contemporaries Wolfgang Puck and Alice Waters.

The outdoor Levitt Pavilion offers a casual June through September slate of eclectic musicians, from jazz to Blues, to Latin and World beats, including 50 free concerts. For the young and young at heart visit the Neon Retro Arcade featuring over 50 classic pinball and video games. Take a stroll through the Armory Center for the Arts, a converted and expanded National Guard building now home to a wealth of modern art, and for a truly top-shelf movie experience take in a show at the iPic Theater and enjoy gourmet food service and premium wine, along with your movie.
