  • The Granddaddy of Them All

The Rose Bowl game is known as the oldest of bowls, it began in 1902. In its 103rd year, the Rose Bowl game takes place on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Rose Bowl Stadium. The Rose Bowl immediately follows the Rose Parade, the two events occur each New Year in Pasadena, California as part of the Tournament of Roses (read about the other Tournament of Roses events here).

    Never on Sunday Tradition

Since 1893, the Tournament of Roses has had a “never-on-Sunday” tradition.  To avoid frightening horses that would be hitched outside churches and interfering with worship services, the events were moved to the next day, January 2nd.  The tradition  remains to this day, though horses no longer are outside the local churches.

    Teams: Penn State vs. USC

Penn State Nittany Lions will compete against USC Trojans in the 2017 Rose Bowl Game. Champions of the Pac-12 and Big Ten Conference are selected to compete against each other in the Rose Bowl game. If the conference champion is selected to participate in the College Football Playoff Semifinal, the Tournament of Roses Association will select the next best team in the conference. A 2018 College Football Playoff Semifinal will be hosted by the Rose Bowl Game.
