  • What is Castle Green?

Castle Green is a historic architectural landmark in Old Pasadena, it opened in 1898 as the second tower of the Hotel Green—when it was built, instead of Castle Green, it was called the “Central Annex.” A grand late-Victorian building, its exteriors fuse Moorish and Spanish influences while the interior public rooms evoke Victorian and Moorish styles. It was the first steel frame construction in Pasadena, the second in Southern California and most probably the second in the Southwestern United States. Castle Green no longer operates as a hotel, instead it serves as private residences. Its older sister, the original Hotel Green building no longer exists, that site is now home to Stats Floral Supply, however a portion of a bridge that once connected the two buildings is preserved. Movies that have filmed at the Castle Green include Ben Affleck’s Live by Night, Bugsy, The Last Samurai, and The Sting. Castle Green is on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated a Pasadena Historic Treasure Monument. More→
