  • Mars Insight Landing: Viewing Party and Discussion

Caltech and The Planetary Society will come together for the Mars InSight Landing: Viewing Party and Discussion as InSight makes its arrival on Mars. NASA will be holding a live coverage of the landing at the Caltech’s Beckman Auditorium. This coverage comes from the InSight team at Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Mat Kaplan from The Planetary Society’s Planetary Radio Series, will be hosting a panel consisting of experts who will provide additional commentary on the historical landing. InSight is expected to make its landing on Mars around 12:00 pm. This is a free event open to the public but registration is required.

All guests must register through Eventbrite. An RSVP also does not guarantee entry as seating is first come, first serve. Once the venue is at capacity, they will not be able to admit additional guests on the list. It is recommended that guests arrive to their seat by 10:45 am. Doors will open at 10:30 am.

InSight is the very first robotic explorer that was built to study the interior of Mars. It will take Mars’ vital signs along with it’s pulse and temperature. InSight will also monitor quakes and internal activity which allows scientists to draw conclusions about the history and structure of Mars. It is to monitor heat flow to give scientists an idea of how Mars’ interior has evolved over time.
