    The Japanese Garden Festival will be held at the beautiful Descanso Gardens.  This family-friendly festival celebrates Japanese art and culture including a tour of the Japanese Garden, taiko drum performances and much more. Activities are free with admission unless noted.

    Highlights

    Ikebana Display

    View examples of ikebana, the art of flower arranging, is one of the most actively practiced of Japan’s traditional arts.  The Sogetsu School of Ikebana promotes a contemporary and international understanding of this art form.

    Japanese Garden Talk and Tour

    Saturday at 10:00 AM

    Dr. Kendall Brown, professor of Asian art history and author of “Quiet Beauty: The Japanese Gardens of North America, “will present a talk about Japanese-style gardens, followed by a walk through of Descanso’s Japanese Garden and a book-signing of his newest book Visionary Landscapes.

    Sunday at 10:00 AM

    Naomi Hirahara, author, curator and local historian, will present a talk that examines the history of Descanso’s Japanese Garden followed by a walk through the garden.

    Patina Fare

    Patina chefs will have Japanese-inspired fare and barbecue selections available for purchase.                       Both days; 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

    Taiko Drummer Performance

    The Kishin Daiko drummers is always a crowd pleaser who will be performing their feats of percussive magic.
    Both Days; 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM

    Crafting

    Create your own work of art inspired by the Japanese Garden.                                                                             Both Days; 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM
