An Evening of Free Art
During ArtNight Pasadena, enjoy a free evening of art, music and entertainment as Pasadena’s most prominent arts and cultural institutions swing open their doors. Begin your journey at any one of our 18 participating cultural institutions, where free shuttles will be waiting to transport you to your next destination. Last fall, 28,000 people experienced the excitement of ArtNight. Don’t miss the fun this spring.
Participating Cultural Institutions
Armory Center For The Arts – Los Angeles Poverty Department 1985-2016 features archival material drawn from LAPD’s 30-year history of performance and Skid Row advocacy.
Artcenter College of Design (Williamson Gallery) – Experience how fourteen Los Angeles city-bred artists are reconsidering the meaning and boundaries of nature, in the Urbanature.
Artcenter College of Design (South Campus) – Explore the rich beauty and history of letterpress typography at Art Center’s Archetype Press. Catch an informative demo, and visit the stunning exhibition: Typography Past/Present/Future.
artWorks Teen Center – An interactive evening including hands-on printmaking and screen-printing activities. The teen center show their talents with live performance, digital stories and visual arts.
City of Pasadena – City Hall- Side Street Projects – Inspired by the lion motif on the courtyard architecture, will be an interactive sound installation. The NEA-funded Our Town Project My Pasadena partnered with Side Street Projects. Visit the Side Street mobile outpost, then check out Lions, Tigers and…, a sound installation that incorporates 1,000 interpretations of Pasadena City Hall’s lions; musical performances by Robert Hilton at 6 and 9 pm; Hands On’Semble at 8 pm; and video projections by Freewaves.
Curatorial Assistance – 23 years of Side Street Projects’ Phantom Ball Print Editions: 25 L.A. Artists include John Baldessari, JoAnn Calls, Tim Hawkinson, Martin Kersels, Catherine Opie, John Outterbridge, Steve Roden, Alison Saar, James Welling and more.
Jackie Robinson Community Center – Explore the legacy of Jackie and Mack Robinson and learn about the history of African American art.
Kidspace Children’s Museum – Enjoy a night of weird and wacky art at Kidspace Children’s Museum! Transform yourself into a piece of living art, become a unicorn and paint a masterpiece with your horn, and create colorful explosions by making your own art rockets.
Light Bringer Project @ Day One – Masterpiece Menagerie: See classical and contemporary artworks come to life in 3-D! Be a part of the art experience, with Room 13 creative studios, music, edibles and lights galore.
Lineage Performing Arts Center – Lineage showcases the performing arts in Old Pasadena, and is the home to the Lineage Dance Company. ArtNight will feature some of Lineage’s favorite artists!
Muse/Ique – Enjoy exciting rhythms and passionate music as MUSE/IQUE brings Salsa to the Paseo Colorado Garfield Promenade featuring the Granada All Star Band and fun art activities for the whole family!
Norton Simon Museum – Enjoy Duchamp to Pop, an exhibition that examines Marcel Duchamp’s potent influence on Pop Art and its leading artists, among them Andy Warhol and Ed Ruscha.
Pasadena Conservatory of Music – Live music all night at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music! Explore multiple venues on PCM’s campus while enjoying continuous classical, multicultural, and interactive performances.
Pasadena Museum of California Art – Explore California Faience’s decorative tiles, vessels, and sculptures; William S. Rice’s woodblock prints; and Robert Cremean’s challenging oeuvre and then tour Kenny Scharf’s Kosmic Krylon Garage.
Pasadena Museum History – View the beauty of textiles inspired by trends worlwide in two exhibitions – Crossing the Atlantic Quilt by Quilt and Strings Attached: Tradition meets Contemporary Woven Art.
PUSD At The Shops on Lake – No Boundaries 11 showcases the talents of Pasadena Unified students. Over 400 artworks are on view representing every school and accompanied by lively musical performances.
Shumei Arts Council – Enjoy sensational Japanese drumming by Makoto Taiko at 6:15, 7:15, 8:15, or 9PM. Visit our fun crafts corner and create Ghibli japanese animation characters felt!
USC Pacific Asia Museum – Enjoy a free evening of Asian and pacific Islander art, music and food. Explore the Museum’s new exhibition, Royal Taste, the Art of Princely Courts in Fifteen-Century China.
Throughout ArtNight, enjoy delicious food from some of LA County’s favorite food trucks and 10% of the proceeds will help support future ArtNights.
Park at any one venue and take the free Pasadena Transit shuttles that will loop throughout the evening with stops at each venue and will be running from 6:00PM – 10:00PM.
Shuttles and Public Transportation
Just for ArtNight, Pasadena Transit (Route 10) will be running for free until 8:00PM. The Metro Gold Line is a great option for those coming from DTLA, East LA, NELA, South Pasadena and now Azusa! Exit Memorial Park Station in Pasadena.
