Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony & Kings Ice Crew to Highlight Pasadena Ice Skating Center Grand Opening

WHAT: A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. to officially open the new Pasadena Ice Skating Center, where for the first time in decades, skaters can enjoy a regulation-sized ice sheet. At noon, the LA Kings Ice Crew will be on hand to distribute giveaways, interact with fans and hold a raffle for free Kings signed merchandise. The Crew will also operate the ultra-cool, high-tech Ice Rider complete with flat screen TVs, DirecTV, X-Box 360 and more.

WHY: The new Pasadena Ice Skating Center features a regulation-sized ice sheet, new dasher boards, team bench area, four team locker rooms, two party rooms, and spectator seating for 180. The $3 million facility, which is being managed by the Pasadena Center Operating Company (PCOC), was funded by a $1.5 million low-interest loan from the city and $1.5 million in capital reserves from the PCOC. Approximately 50 employees from the old skating center have been hired to work at the new one.
